Remind Them of Their Tenderness

In 1888, German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche first stated, “Out of life’s school of war—what doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger.”

For many years, this was one of my core beliefs that helped keep me functioning through some excruciating and dire untreated Bipolar Disorder symptoms and crises.

Grateful as I am that this trope helped me push through some incredible adversity, maturation, life experiences, and spiritual growth have taught me how myopic and flat out false this aphorism is.

Nietzsche himself died a broken, sickly individual with untreated mental illness.
