It’s a great way to drive those demons back onto their perch

After spending 43 years as a sick, tortured, self-serving soul, service and helping others has become a foundation stone of my recovery.

Even in Recovery, my demons are still perched on my shoulder. Sometimes they pounce and attack me visciously, particularly when I am laid vulnerable by fatigue, stress, hunger, temptation, intense emotions, or slacking off on self-care.

But even at those times I seek, and often find, the strength (through my Higher Power) to be of service and help others.

It’s a great way to drive those demons back onto their perch.
