WE WILL NOT BE SILENT
Mentalism or sanism (personal or systemic discrimination against people with mental illnesses) is alive and well. And all too prevalent.
If it weren’t, millions of our brothers and sisters wouldn’t be locked away in barbaric institutions with hardened criminals, receiving no treatment. Hundreds of thousands wouldn’t be sleeping in tent cities or competing for a spot in a shelter every night.
Jesus sought ought the lepers and healed them. Our “Christian” nation locks our modern day “lepers” in cages or leaves them living like feral cats.
I have much gratitude for those of us who have gotten far enough into Recovery to advocate AGAINST sanism and stigma and FOR our seat at the family table of humanity.
