That’s social and systemic violence of the worst kind

Ignoring the suffering of others. That’s what the Levite and the Priest did. As decent human beings, we are called upon to be the Good Samaritans, every day if need be.

The fact that millions of people with mental illness in America are roaming the streets like stray dogs or are suffering a brutal existence in prison that perptuates their deterioration is an excellent example of the unbearable violence that our society inflicts by not recognizing human suffering.

It’s easier to discard a mentally ill person like a piece of trash or lock them in a cage than to acknowledge that they are suffering members of the community and administer love and care to them.

That’s social and systemic violence of the worst kind.
