It doesn’t hit us at core, gut level until we have a human connection with one or more of those “stats”

Looking at statistics about people dying can cause a person to feel a degree of empathy and concern, but it doesn’t hit us at core, gut level to where we are ready to take action until we have a human connection with one or more of those “stats.”

I have had a couple of people close to me end their lives because the pain became unbearable. And being in the recovery community, I have known several others. I have also been suicidal.

This is part of the reason I help fellow sufferers via my peer support and advocate for people with mental illness, addiction, or emotional trauma.
